in days that long since lost their prime
layer on layer of deceitful grime
left their hearts tarnished by better times
layer on layer of deceitful grime
left their hearts tarnished by better times
all hung out to bleach in the desert winds
ripped and torn unable to mend
rusty nails shred memories to the end
lives now just barren ghost towns
where light and love once abound
ain't nothin' left to be found
on this infertile wretched ground
can't even the gods revive
neither'a them wasted lives

Whew. I need to read this one again. And again. Beautifully written, Gypsy.
oh, trish, just love unlived unfulfilled - wasted lives barren now without each other -
ashes to ashes. death is part of the circle of life, and i love how you write so artfully about the barren places in all of our worlds.
as always, ed, your kind words are so appreciated! thank you -
That photograph illustrates so wonderfully everything you wrote in this poem..The desolation and barreness of the desert just rings so true with your metaphorical words.
i love this image, too, naomi - notwithstanding how i love the southwest anyway - there is such beauty in the "rawness" of it - in the purity of it - the honesty of the land - thanks so much for coming by and leaving such kind words!
Yes - as ever - a perfect match twixt words and images.
thanks much, pat!

Not much left indeed. Not much more to say either. My own life is slowly becoming a barren ground, and I am muting into a heartless father.
dear roger - i think we all go through times of barren-ness, don't we? times of infertility, emptiness - and then, spring, in some physical and/or spiritual form or other form finds its way into our hearts and we once more breathe with life - and hope and promise - of more - and with that our empty hearts are filled - and we become heart-full, no longer heart-less - or so i like to think...
I enjoy your writings. New ways to see the world, new ways to enjoy my life. Thank you.
greetings carlos - you are so welcome and thanks very much for coming by - it's very humbling to know that my words might impact even in the smallest way in someone else's world...please do drop by any time at all - peace - j
